Described by the New York Times as “blessedly inventive,” New York City’s Peridance Contemporary Dance Company has been a leader in expressive and innovative dance since 1983. The company has an illustrious performance history at venues including the Joyce Theater, Lincoln Center, and internationally in Italy, Argentina, South Korea, and beyond, introducing the sheer emotionality of contemporary dance to new audiences. 

The program will feature favorite repertoire such as Yue Yin’s “Just Above the Surface” (2020) and Igal Perry’s “Bolero” (1983) and “Valses Poeticos” (1987), as well as a new work from PCDC’s latest season “the space between” (2024) by Chanel DaSilva.

Call Me Dancer follows an athletic street dancer from Mumbai whose working-class parents depend on their only son’s support. When Manish chooses to dance instead of continuing on a more traditional path, his father tells him, “Dancing is a hobby for rich kids.”

Ambitious and passionate, Manish is determined to make it as a professional dancer, but the odds are stacked against him. Under the committed guidance of a ballet master, he embarks on a transformative journey, battling self-doubt and cultural barriers in pursuit of his dream.

Call Me Dancer captures the vibrant energy of Mumbai’s streets and the disciplined world of dance. A rollercoaster of emotions and a feast for the eyes, the film takes you on a non-stop adventure, and by the end, you will want to jump up from your seat and, yes, dance!
