COCA Clips: Panelists Speak on the Impact of Art on Healing Racial Injustice

On July 20, COCA hosted a pre-show panel discussion before a performance of The Color Purple, in collaboration with Forward Through Ferguson. Forward Through Ferguson is a leading anti-racist systems change organization dedicated to advancing racially equitable policies in the St. Louis region.

This panel features five distinguished guests:

  • Faybra Jabulani, Lead Racial Equity Capacity Catalyst of Forward Through Ferguson
  • Riisa Rawlins, CEO of the St. Louis Regional Health Commission and Board Member of COCA & Forward Through Ferguson
  • Dr. Duane Martin Foster, Director of The Color Purple
  • Indigo K. Sams, President & CEO of COCA
  • Annissa McCaskill, Executive Director of Forward Through Ferguson

Together, they delve into the profound intersection of racial justice and the arts. Sharing personal stories of impact following the tragic murder of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, in 2014, they highlight how art serves as a powerful medium to confront injustice and heal from the enduring effects of racism. The panelists identify systemic failures and advocate for continued dialogue and action to create a more just future for all.
