On November 16, COCA’s Improv Troupe kept the audience entertained with their performance of COCA IGNITES! The pre-professional artists showcased their talent through unscripted skits and games that kept the audience engaged from start to finish.
One highlight of the night involved a skit inspired by the audience’s suggestion—going to the beach. Two performers built a scene that shifted each time director Ed Reggi rang a bell, forcing them to change their responses and storyline on the spot. Their creativity and adaptability had the audience laughing nonstop.
A standout laugh came from Abi, an Improv Troupe member who nailed a movie review prompt. Tasked with reviewing a fictional film titled Saving Annie, a tale about Annie being attacked by Dracula, Abi delivered a brilliant tagline: The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow. This clever connection between the iconic musical Annie and Dracula’s aversion to the sun left the audience roaring.
The Improv Troupe’s ability to respond to prompts with humor, creativity, and structure is remarkable.
“It might not sound like a good idea to watch 10–18-year-olds do improv, but the games and prompts are well chosen to highlight their skills, and there are more than enough lines deployed to entertain anyone for an hour,” said an audience member.
Beyond the laughs, Improv Troupe helps students build valuable skills like quick thinking, public speaking, problem-solving, and confidence. It’s more than a performance—it’s a tool for growth in everyday experiences.
COCA’s Improv Troupe will hold auditions on December 8 from 3:00–4:00PM for students ages 10–18. During auditions, students will participate as a group in improvisational exercises. Sign up for an audition slot to be a part of the fun.
