This summer, Michael returns to COCA to teach the Voice and Songwriting Intensives, which provide a unique opportunity for singers and songwriters to gain invaluable experience.
Voice Intensive II | JUL 7–11
Voice Intensive II (JUL 7–11)helps performers connect singing and acting techniques, allowing them to express deeper emotions through their songs.
“Our Voice Intensive is a one-of-a-kind experience designed to help performing artists connect a singing technique to an acting technique…a skill that allows them to express a deeper understanding of the emotional life of the song,” says Michael.
Students engage in vocal warm-ups, acting exercises, audition preparation, and performance work, all aimed at discovering their “star quality.”
“I love nothing more than sharing information with students so that they may draw some inspiration and build confidence with a better understanding of their unique expression as a performing artist,” says Michael.
Songwriting Intensive | JUL 14–18
The Songwriting Intensive (JUL 14–18) offers a creative space for students to refine songs and record them in a professional studio. This hands-on experience adds a real-world dimension to their learning.
“For many of our students, this is their first time working in a professional recording studio… it’s a thrill,” says Michael.
The Songwriting Intensive involves developing and recording songs, with students gaining firsthand experience in Clayton Studios.
“Making music from a personal point of view is a wonderful and life-affirming pursuit. It makes the world a better place for everyone,” says Beatty, emphasizing the importance of creative expression.
