Ready to take your singing to the next level? Voice Intensive I, led by Tre G, helps young singers ages 14–18 refine their craft and expand their vocal abilities from JUL 7–11.
Focusing on storytelling through song, this program combines familiar repertoire with fresh material from celebrated works of musical theatre. Students also work on incorporating physicality into their performances, giving them the tools to bring their songs to life.

In this interview, Tre G shares how the program helps singers break out of their comfort zones and grow as performers:
How does this program help singers break out of their comfort zones?
This program pushes singers to step beyond what feels safe by helping them choose music that highlights their strengths while challenging their skills. Many singers stick to what they know, but through guided coaching, technical exercises, and performance opportunities, they learn to embrace new material and take risks. By the end, they gain the confidence to trust their voices and make bold artistic choices.
What’s one challenge students often face in vocal performance, and how does this intensive address it?
A big challenge is picking the right song—something that showcases their voice while still pushing them to grow. Many singers either play it too safe or choose something too difficult, so we teach them how to find balance, make informed choices, and shape their performance. They also develop essential skills like creating audition cuts and building stage presence.
How does working on both new and familiar repertoire benefit a singer’s growth?
Familiar songs provide comfort and a foundation to refine technique, while new songs stretch their abilities and challenge their interpretation skills. By working with both, singers develop versatility, gain confidence in tackling new material, and build a repertoire that reflects their unique strengths. This combination helps them grow into well-rounded performers ready for auditions and the stage.
What kind of student would benefit most from this program?
Any singer who wants to grow, whether they’re just starting out or refining their audition skills. It’s especially great for those who feel stuck, struggle with song selection, or need help building confidence in front of an audience. If you’re ready to take yourself seriously as a performer, this program will give you the tools to do it.
What’s one thing you hope every student walks away with after completing the intensive?
I hope every student leaves feeling more confident in their voice and in their ability to choose and prepare songs that truly fit them. Knowing how to select, shape, and deliver a song is essential for any performer, and this intensive gives them that foundation. More than anything, I want them to walk away excited about their artistry and ready to keep growing.
Audition Requirements: Voice students who are not currently studying at COCA must submit a one-minute video excerpt of a song of their choice to Dr. Philip Woodmore at pwoodmore@cocastl.org by May1.
